How to set up your HeatPod Sauna Blanket

Infrared sauna blankets are a new technology, which is why there is limited research on their efficacy. But when you compare the way they transmit heat, it’s exactly in the same way as infrared saunas - via FIR.

And when you compare the physiological effects of using an infrared sauna blanket, compared to using an infrared sauna or a traditional Finnish sauna, you’ll realize that they are the same.

  1. Lay your blanket flat on a heat-resistant surface (bed, yoga mat, massage table, floor)
  2. Plug in the power cord and connect it to the controller.
  3. Set your desired temperature (we recommend starting around 65°C / 149°F for beginners).
  4. Choose your session duration — start with 20–30 minutes and slowly work your way up.
  5. Preheat the blanket for 15 minutes before getting in during the winter

🔥 Pro Tip: Wear light cotton clothing or use the towel insert to prevent skin contact with the sauna blanket and absorb your sweat - this will make cleanup a lot easier.

First-Timer Tips & FAQs

What should I wear in a sauna blanket?

We recommend wearing lightweight and breathable clothing made of cotton or bamboo. This can:

  • Prevents direct skin contact with the heated interior
  • Helps absorb sweat
  • Makes post-session cleanup easier

Alternatively, you can use the towel insert.

How often should I use a sauna blanket?

If you’re just getting started, begin with 2–3 sessions per week at shorter durations (15–25 minutes).

As your body adapts to heat exposure, you can gradually work up to:

  • 3–5 sessions per week for general wellness, metabolism, and recovery
  • Up to 6 sessions per week for detoxification goals (with proper hydration)

Always listen to your body. If you feel overly fatigued or lightheaded, take a rest day and hydrate.

How hot should the sauna blanket be?

Start at 60°C/140°F and slowly work your way up to 85°C/185°F. Pay attention to how your body reacts.

Remember: Sweat ≠ suffering. A good session should feel intensely warm but tolerable, never overwhelming.

How long should my first sauna session be?

Start with just 15–20 minutes, especially if you’re new to infrared heat. Then build up to:

  • 25–30 minutes for general wellness
  • 30–45 minutes for deeper detox or weight loss goals

Your body will adapt over time, so don’t rush into long sessions from day one.

Can I fall asleep in a sauna blanket?

Absolutely. Hydration is essential.

  • Aim for:16–24 oz of water 30–60 minutes before your session
  • Electrolyte-rich drinks or coconut water after sweating to replace lost minerals
  • Avoid alcohol or dehydrating beverages beforehand

How do I clean and store my sauna blanket?

After each session:

  • Let the blanket cool down
  • Wipe the inside with a clean towel or a cloth sprayed with gentle, natural disinfectant
  • Keep it open to dry before folding for storage

Avoid harsh cleaners or soaking it in water — this can damage the electronics or the inner lining. Store it flat or rolled in a cool, dry place.
