Shopping for a
cold plunge?
Here’s why the Supertub is the best – and best value – option.
It’s earned a five-star rating in 93% of customer reviews…
1. Don’t carry that weight
We made the Supertub an inflatable because we’ve found that that’s the best form factor for most people who are plunging at home. Why?
First, it offers the most flexibility with your cold plunge setup.
You’ll benefit from an inflatable if you:
- Are new to plunging– as this will allow you to easily experiment and figure out your optimal location/setup: master bathroom vs. balcony vs. porch vs. garage etc;
- Want to plunge indoors in the winter, but outdoors in the summer;
- Think you might renovate or move within the next few years.

During the lifetime of your cold plunge, you’ll need to change out the water every few weeks or months, clean the tub, mop up spills and splashes, lift up the tub and clean the underside to prevent buildup of mold and mildew, etc
Bradley and Aubrie Bromlow: Supertub Review
During long-term product testing and development, our team realised that the inflatable plunges were the only ones that allowed for easy cleaning and maintenance, without huge hassles or pulled muscles.
Third, there’s no quality compromise.
High-quality inflatables can match or beat hard-sided tubs when it comes to durability, insulation, and comfort.
For instance, we make the Supertub out of military-grade, double-walled marine vinyl – the same material military life rafts are made of. It’s tough, won’t degrade in the presence of minerals and salts, and will stand up to the elements and water.
Air is also a great insulator, and the Supertub’s double-walled construction ensures that things stay cool and energy-efficient.
The main downside of an inflatable is of course that you’ll need to inflate it before use. This can be a hassle with a manual air pump. So we include a free electric air pump (worth $85) with every Supertub. You’ll be able to inflate it to the required air pressure of 10 PSI at the push of a button, in just 4-5 minutes.
2. Power, at a (good) price
We conducted extensive testing to find out how much horsepower most users really require, so we could offer the best combination of power and price.
Here’s what we found:
- Anything 0.5hp and under might struggle on warmer days, even in temperate climates;
- 0.6hp works well in temperate climates;
- You’ll likely need to go up to 0.75-0.8hp for warmer climates, temperate climates with hot summers, or if you like doing plunge parties (multiple people in one sitting).
So we set up the Supertub with an 0.8hp Permafrost™ chiller that offers more than enough power for residential users– and even non-residential ones.
Contact support@hydragun.com if you’d like to purchase the Supertub for use in a commercial setting.
The Supertub has been featured in gyms, spin studios, large fitness chains, marathons, conventions, and other high-traffic events, and its high-efficiency chiller kept pace throughout it all– even outdoors in the height of summer.
If that’s enough for these settings, it should be more than enough for your home– no need to pay thousands more for a spec bump you don’t require.
3. Benevolent destruction
Ozone is a must-have in modern cold plunges– but it’s surprisingly missing from some popular models, even from premium brands.
Ozone destroys microbes that you absolutely do not want hanging out in your water, including:
- Viruses and bacteria like E. coli and staph;
- Fungi like Candida albicans (which causes yeast infections);
- Parasites like Cryptosporidium parvum, which infects the intestinal tract and is a leading cause of waterborne disease in the US.
It also destroys biofilm (the slimy film or texture caused by bacteria and microbe buildup) and eliminates water cloudiness – which are inevitable in cold plunges without proper water treatment, due to the buildup of body oils, sweat, bacteria, etc.
Some plunges either lack an ozone generator altogether, or have a cheaper UV sanitization system instead. We strongly suggest avoiding models that use UV, as ozone provides significantly superior sanitation, water clarity and texture, and odor management.
For those interested, here’s a rundown of all the differences between ozone and UV sanitization:
- Ozone destroys biofilm, while UV does not;
- Ozone destroys biofilm (the slimy film caused by bacteria and microbe buildup), while UV does not;
- Ozone is a micro-flocculent, meaning it eliminates water cloudiness, but UV is not;
- Even if your water does get a little cloudy over time, ozone will continue to function, but UV’s efficacy will be impacted (as the cloudiness will absorb the UV light);
- Ozone from the generator will diffuse throughout the water in the entire cold plunge system, while UV only affects the water that is passing through the UV chamber;
- Ozone destroys humic and fulvic acids (byproducts of plant and animal matter decay), while UV does not;
- Ozone destroys microbes like Cryptosporidium parvum, while UV only deactivates them;
- Ozone generator cells do not require replacement, but UV vapor lamps may need to be replaced as soon as every 3-12 months, and disposal must be done carefully as lamp gases are considered hazardous waste.
The Supertub comes with a commercial-grade ozone generator so you can have clean, clear water – and complete peace of mind.
4. Sensible design
Integrated, easy-access strainer and filter on the Supertub.
Another thing to look out for is whether the brand has paid attention to the UX (user experience) during the design process.
For instance– a good cold plunge should come with a water strainer that catches larger debris like hair and sand.
Both are critical to prevent your system from getting clogged up, and you’ll need to clean/change them out every few days, weeks or months (depending on how often you plunge).
If you don’t see a water strainer and a water filter on the chiller you’re buying, it means either that the brand has left them out – which some brands do, leaving users stuck with a tub full of gunky, mucky water – or that they are buried within the guts of the chiller unit and will require a screwdriver and/or a lot of wrangling to get out.
To us, this is a baffling design choice – but it’s one of many little issues that are all too common in cold plunges sold today, especially by less experienced or less reputable brands.
So look for a brand that’s committed to streamlined and sensible design, and that’s made product choices that will simplify your life as a cold plunge owner– not make it miserable.
5. Unbeatable value
